The 2025 World Congress on Enforced Disappearances was successfully launched on 27 March in Geneva at a well-attended event organized by CEDI’s Core States: Argentina, France, Morocco and Samoa.
The World Congress will take place from 14 to 16 January 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
CEDI encourages all actors to prepare for the World Congress and take part in the pre-Congress consultations, thinking about the contribution they can make towards our goal: to make the Convention universal and enforced disappearance a practice of the past.

Aua Baldé, Chair-Rapporteur of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, who presented the work of the WGEID and explained the importance of the universal ratification of the Convention to eradicate this abhorrent practice
H.E. Jérôme Bonnafont, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Francen who recalled in his concluding remarks that enforced disappearance is a universal issue and that universal ratification of the Convention is about “self-immunity” because we never know what the future holds but also about protecting the world.
